Just a 12-minute ferry ride from Auckland City, Devonport is Auckland's historic seaside village and feels a world away from the hustle of the CBD.

Magic Broomsticks Office is located in the Devonport Ferry Terminal. Look for the Ferry Ticket Office, where the Ferries come and go and you'll find Magic Broomstick Tours sharing the office with them.

Begin with a safety briefing and a Segway riding lesson from your tour guide. Magic Broomstick Tours have been in business since 2008 so know all the tips and tricks to make learning to ride easy.

There are four guided tours to choose from which all take in the stunning surroundings of Devonport.

A Taste of Segway - 1 hour tour
Learn to ride and practice on the training ground and then take a ride around the waterfront to Cheltenham Beach to take in the views of Rangitoto Island. You can put the Segway through its paces in one of the local parks before returning to Devonport Wharf through the back streets past charming Victorian villas.

Family Fun - 45 minute tour
Test your skills through the cones on the training ground and then head out around the shoreline of Waitemata Harbour. This activity is fun for the whole family but children must be over 10 to ride.

Historic North Head/Maungauika - 2 and a half hour tour
Summit North Head/Maungauika on a Segway and enjoy stunning views of Auckland City and the Hauraki Gulf. Explore the historic reserve which was once a defence against a possible Russian invasion and walk through tunnels and see the disappearing gun. Afterwards, the tour visits Cheltenham Beach and a local park to have some Segway fun before returning to Devonport Wharf.

Takarunga/Mt Victoria Magic - 1 and a half hour tour
Ride to the beach and through the streets before gliding on your Segway to the summit of Takarunga/Mt Victoria, the highest volcanic cone on Auckland's North Shore where the 360degree views of Auckland City and the Hauraki Gulf are spectacular and where the 'iconic mushrooms' have a special meaning. There's also time for some free riding in the park.

Magic Broomstick also offers special team-building events for company outings with a difference. Run on location in beautiful Devonport the sessions include training on the Segway and activities to help improve communication, strategising and resilience. The event includes relay races with tasks to be incorporated and time for free riding.

There's plenty of time to practice riding a Segway before setting off with your guide, who will be there to fine-tune your riding style as you go along. The Segway also learns to read your movements and 'tunes' itself into giving you the most comfortable ride possible.

Children must be at least 10 to do the family ride and Taste of Segway tour and must be over-13 for the Mt Victoria and North Head tours.
